Dilip Changkakoty is a leading scholar of ethnomusicology in Assam. He is also working on traditional Vaishnava music of Assam. He has successfully completed several scientific projects with thorough studies on the subject. He is engaged in the study of the subject as well as the preservation, enhancement and sustaining of heritage. He has been recognized by ICOMOS (an advisory body of UNESCO) as an ''Expert member" of the International Committee on Intangible Cultural Heritage for his contributions to the subject.He is currently a member of two National Scientific Committees of ICOMOS India and Coordinator of the North East Zone.
